Every bag maker needs one of these! You’ll wonder how you’ve ever survived this long without one. An edgestitch presser foot, sometimes called a “stitch in the ditch” foot, helps you sew a perfectly straight stitch in relation to the edge of your fabric or seam. This foot is compatible with most modern Singer, Brother and Janome sewing machines. Sewing machine compatibility is dependent on the machine having a low shank and being able to accept a snap-on presser foot.

I’ve sewn bags for years and always fought to keep my seams straight, but this foot’s built-in guide makes that edge sit exactly where I want it on the first pass. The groove underneath slips over the seam allowance so smoothly it feels like cheating, and my stitch-in-the-ditch lines are finally cri

My zipper panels finally sit flush against the fabric layers instead of drifting off by a millimeter, and the groove on the bottom of this foot guides the needle right along the seam line every time. It took me one test scrap to get the hang of it, but now binding and pocket edges look like they cam
